I am 25 years old and want to start investing money into stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. I recently opened an account with etrade, a savings account with 5% rate of return. I think this is a good start, but I would like to learn more on how investing is done. Is etrade a good place to invest with? Where can I learn about investments, websites? books?

Bob asked:

Currently I am 45% US stocks, 15% non US stocks, 20% bonds, 20% cash. I was planning to retire with all debts paid off (including my house) & live off a pension plus a 3% withdraw rate from my investments /year. I worry we could have a stock drop like the Great Depression (stocks dropped 95%) or hyperinflation like Germany in 1920. Where should I move some investments in case the worst case situations occur?

LIBERTY4EVER asked:

I tried to have my 401k rolled over to investing only in gold. They said that it could not be done since gold/silver is a commodity. Can anyone tell me the best way to get OUT of the market and get INTO gold? I am convinced our dollar will collapse catastrophically and only those with gold stand a chance at even surviving without being a ward of the state and enslaved. Your help is appreciated.
